Personal Expression: A Design Approach

Description:
This workshop is for all types of painters--- whether they paint representational, abstract or nonobjective. It is also for all types of mediums – watercolor, acrylic, gesso, gouache, or mixed media. The emphasis is on searching for personal content, design and composition--- three steps to fabulous painting. Participants will work on composition, explore personal aspects of their painting and work on their design elements and principles. They will have the option to work with different mediums and explore the use of collage. There will be demonstrations, slide talks, assignments, personal and group critiques, and discussions. By the end of the workshop, the painter will have a stronger understanding of composition, design elements and principles. By emphasizing certain elements and principles, and choosing more personal content, paintings will become more unique, recognizable and successful.

Getting to the Good Stuff - A Camera Guide for Beginners

Description:
If you are the proud owner of a shiny new DSLR who’s keen to start on the road to some really great photographs, have we got the class for you! This two morning class, team-taught with Simi Shonowo of Uche Photography, will teach you the basics of photography and camera operation, and introduce various concepts of composition to help you move from snapshots to some really creative photography.

During the first morning, we’ll discuss the meaning of exposure and the camera controls used to adjust exposure. We’ll then cover the creative aspects of exposure choice – how to blur backgrounds, how to freeze action and how to choose shutter speed and aperture appropriately for the kind of subject you are photographing.

Description:
High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography offers a collection of great tools for both artistic and realistic rendering of scenes which your camera on its own would be unable to capture in a single shot. Whether you intend to use it to create realistic images of building interiors or surreal art images, this one day class offers you a jump start under the instruction of an experienced HDR photographer.

Dave Wilson has been working with HDR techniques for 5 years and has a 25 year track record in photography. His HDR images have drawn praise from photographers and art lovers alike and have been accepted into juried exhibitions and collections in USA and Europe.

Description:
This workshop will focus on using color, light and composition to create outstanding images. We begin each day by viewing and critiquing each other’s photograph’s. Highly visual lectures and demonstrations cover digital camera settings for accurate metering and exposure, in addition to the rules of composition. Artistic use of light with special emphasis on creative flash technique is also an important part of this workshop. In addition, we will cover the basics of editing, sequencing and story development. Attendance is limited to 15.

"Figurative Workshop"

Description:
This class will incorporate anything that will make your figure pieces more exciting. Liz will do several demos to show how she creates her wonderfully creative and awarding winning compositions, some with collage. She stains and paints her own collage paper and will show you how she uses them in her compositions. There will be a live model each day. Attendance is limited to 12.
